Lameck Kefela
Lameck Kefela is a dedicated legal recruiter with a passion for fostering inclusive environments within the legal community. Lameck graduated from Glendon College (York University) with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and earned his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Ottawa. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2023. Prior to joining Smith Legal Search, Lameck worked at one of the top regional firms in Toronto.
In his professional career to date, Lameck has been actively involved in promoting diversity and inclusivity in the legal profession. He has held executive positions with numerous diversity groups, including the Ottawa Black Law Students Association and Glendon African Network. He is an active member of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL), where he continues to advocate for and provide mentorship to all lawyers from diverse backgrounds.
Outside work, Lameck remains active in the community, volunteering with several key organizations, including the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture (CCVT) and supporting Eritrean and Ethiopian refugees. Leveraging his multilingual abilities in English, Italian, French, Spanish and Tigrinya, Lameck values cultural diversity and strives to create inclusive environments both within and beyond the legal sector.
On the personal side, you can find Lameck cheering on AC Milan, exploring art at the AGO, perfecting his carbonara recipe, and generally being the most fashionable person on the team. He is quietly educating some of the senior members of the company on the merits of clothing options available outside Costco.
Lameck’s diverse interests reflect his approachable and engaging personality, making him adept at building connections and understanding the unique needs of legal professionals and clients alike.
