Trevin Sewell

At Smith Legal Search, we partner with leaders who build teams the right way. Trevin Sewell embodies that standard.

Trevin pivoted from counselling to legal recruitment in 2019 and has since become a trusted advisor to lawyers and firms across British Columbia. He brings a relationship-driven, consultative approach that blends business development with deep expertise in talent acquisition, interviewing, personality assessment, and market intelligence. His focus is clear: align client and candidate goals for long-term success.

Before joining our industry, Trevin spent four years as a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor and business consultant, working with competitive athletes facing performance anxiety, young adults in recovery, and organizations seeking more human-centred workplaces. That foundation informs his work today: he looks beyond titles and CVs to fit, growth, culture, and the systems that drive performance, diversify talent, and deliver sustainable outcomes.

Over the last six years in legal recruitment, Trevin has helped lawyers and firms make high-quality, low-regret moves. He understands that career decisions are about timing, platform, mentorship, and the work itself—not just compensation. Clients rely on his candid advice, clean execution, and realistic view of the market to make confident decisions.

Trevin is open about what shapes his practice. He lives with ADHD and neurodivergence and is more than a decade sober—experiences that underscore his emphasis on clarity, structure, and follow-through, and fuel his advocacy for mental health in the legal profession. He has served as a Subject Matter Expert with the Abbotsford Police Department’s Project Angel, addressing the opioid crisis, and as a former competitive hockey player and coach, he brings a performance lens to hiring and team building.

Earlier in his career, Trevin was a recruitment associate with a leading national firm. He studied Business Administration and Kinesiology at the University of the Fraser Valley, then Psychology and Organizational Leadership at Trinity Western University, and holds a UBC diploma in Immigration Law: Policies and Procedures. He is also a Certified Sports Psychology Practitioner and a Certified Career Development Practitioner.

If you’re a lawyer exploring your next step—or a firm building a high-performing team—our team would be glad to connect you with Trevin for a candid conversation about the market and a plan that makes sense.
