With the recently announced merger of equals between Teck and Anglo American that will form
“Anglo Teck”, a global critical minerals champion and top five copper producer headquartered in
Canada, the legal team continues to grow and scale.
Teck is looking to add a Corporate Counsel to support their mining exploration team, working
directly with the General Counsel. You will be embedded in the exploration and corporate
development groups, advising on deals from early-stage through to close – property
acquisitions, joint ventures, options, royalties, and other mining-focused commercial matters.
You will also manage diligence on transactional matters, draft and negotiate confidentiality,
option, joint venture and royalty agreements, advise on strategic equity investments in junior
miners, and oversee another legal team member and manage external counsel across a
number of countries. The role also carries general corporate counsel responsibilities at the
corporate level, including internal reorganizations and general corporate or commercial matters.
The ideal candidate brings a minimum of six years of relevant legal experience with a strong
foundation in mining transactions, significant exposure to early-stage option arrangements and
joint ventures, and the instincts of someone who has led complex deals through to completion.
You think in solutions, communicate clearly with technical and commercial teams, and know
how to hold your own in a negotiation without losing the relationship. Experience in other natural
resources industries or international jurisdictions is a strong asset.
The pay scale for this role is $150,000 – $190,000 per annum, plus a very competitive overall
total compensation package.
