About the Role
A highly regarded national boutique law firm specializing exclusively in labour and employment law is seeking a Law Clerk/ Legal Assistant to join its Toronto office. The successful candidate will support two senior partners and one associate in a fast-paced, intellectually engaging practice focused primarily on employer-side defence work.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-level litigation support to senior partners and an associate in a labour and employment practice
- Draft, proof, and file pleadings, affidavits, motions records, facta, compendia, bills of costs, mediation briefs, and other court documents
- Prepare and file documents for Superior Court, Small Claims Court, Divisional Court, Federal Court, Ontario Labour Relations Board, and Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario matters
- Manage electronic filings through Case Centre and Ontario e-filing portals
- Maintain undertaking charts, BF systems, and proactively monitor file progress and upcoming deadlines
- Handle docket entries, billing support, and client account management
- Manage multiple calendars, filing deadlines, and electronic document management systems
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, and court and tribunal offices
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of experience as a Law Clerk or Legal Assistant in litigation and/or labour and employment law
- Strong hands-on experience preparing affidavits, pleadings, and large litigation documents
- Proficiency with Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules of the Small Claims Court, and Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario Rules
- Experience with Ontario Labour Relations Board and Human Rights Tribunal matters is a strong asset
- Comfortable with document management systems (DMS) and legal accounting platforms
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Law Clerk diploma or Licensed Paralegal (LCO) designation is an asset
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to raise issues and communicate openly
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to anticipate needs and manage competing priorities independently
Salary range: $65,000 – $80,000
