Our client, a well-established litigation and labour & employment firm in downtown Vancouver, is seeking a Mandarin or Cantonese-speaking Legal Assistant to join its supportive and close-knit team. This is a rare chance to put your language skills to real use, working directly with clients and helping them through the legal process in their own language. At the same time, you’ll be building a strong foundation in civil litigation and workplace law.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support a team of lawyers practising litigation and labour & employment law with day-to-day administrative and file management tasks
  • Communicate with Mandarin-speaking clients by phone, email and in person, including scheduling, updates, and gathering documents and information
  • Assist with translating and summarizing client correspondence and documents as needed
  • Prepare, format and proofread correspondence, pleadings, affidavits and other legal documents
  • File and serve court documents, including electronic filing through Court Services Online (CSO)
  • Assist with filings and correspondence before administrative tribunals, such as employment standards, human rights and labour relations bodies
  • Track and diarize limitation dates, court and hearing dates, and filing deadlines
  • Coordinate chambers bookings, examinations for discovery, mediations and meetings
  • Open, organize and maintain electronic files
  • Assist with document productions, lists of documents and hearing binders
  • Support time entry and the monthly billing process
  • Pitch in on general office tasks and help colleagues during busy periods

What We’re Looking For

  • 1–2 years of experience as a legal assistant, ideally in litigation or labour & employment
  • Fluency in Mandarin (spoken and written) and English
  • Working knowledge of the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules, or a strong desire to deepen it
  • Exposure to employment matters or tribunal processes is an asset
  • Legal Administrative Assistant diploma or equivalent education is an asset
  • Excellent organization skills and a sharp eye for detail
  • Comfortable with document management, e-filing and legal billing platforms
  • A proactive, team-first attitude and eagerness to learn

Salary range: $50,000 – $60,000

Location: DT Vancouver
