This role presents a unique opportunity for a junior to mid-level lawyer to play a pivotal part in a fast-growing fintech business. Reporting directly to the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer—and working closely with the CEO and CFO—you’ll step into a high-impact, business-facing position where you’ll be trusted to drive a range of legal initiatives. The work spans corporate commercial law with key touchpoints in product development, privacy, and global regulatory trends.
You’ll be responsible for drafting and negotiating a wide array of commercial agreements, collaborating with product and engineering teams to offer practical, compliant solutions, and supporting data governance and privacy initiatives. You’ll also monitor legal developments across Localcoin’s jurisdictions—including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong—and provide insights on their implications for the business. This position offers exposure to compliance, anti-money laundering (AML), regulatory correspondence, and occasional corporate disputes. Your remit will also include corporate housekeeping, insurance matters, and coordination with external counsel on specialized legal issues.
The ideal candidate will bring three to five years of post-call experience, grounded in corporate commercial or M&A training from a top-tier law firm or in-house legal department. You are licensed in a Canadian jurisdiction (Ontario preferred), and known for your sharp drafting skills, practical legal judgment, and calm, collaborative communication style. An interest in emerging technologies, privacy law, payments, and AML frameworks will be a strong asset.
Localcoin offers a flexible work structure—just four days per week—with one in-office day (Toronto) for those local to headquarters, though legal team members enjoy additional flexibility. The compensation package includes a competitive base salary, bonus eligibility, comprehensive benefits, and paid vacation.
