Tourmaline Oil Corp. is Canada’s largest and most active natural gas producer, dedicated to producing the lowest-development-cost natural gas in North America. Reporting to the Vice President, Legal, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, the Legal Counsel will support the business with a focus on regulatory, health, safety and environment (HSE), Indigenous relations, litigation/disputes, surface land and employment matters. The successful candidate will work closely with a variety of stakeholders within the business and with senior members of the legal team and gain hands-on experience across multiple areas.
Key responsibilities will include providing strategic, long-term advice on regulatory matters, monitoring emerging regulatory and policy developments, providing legal support on HSE matters, advising on Indigenous relations matters, managing litigation and disputes, and providing legal advice on employment matters. Much of this work is done alongside cross-functional teams across the business.
The ideal candidate thrives in a flat, decision-forward environment defined by close collaboration and a highly integrated team. They bring a minimum of ten years’ legal experience, along with a strong understanding of, and practical legal experience with, the upstream oil and gas industry, including familiarity with the regulatory framework governing oil and gas development in Alberta and/or British Columbia. Experience with First Nations consultation and relationship-building is considered an asset.
